Before climbing:
Before all climbing excursions, we meet the day before at the agency
to answer all your questions, try out the equipment and to enter
your personal details for the insurance policy.
A $ 10,000 CLP deposit, in cash, will be asked from you then. The
balance will be paid after completing the activity.
If you suffer from a special condition: asthma, heart disease…or
other; please inform us at this time.
We meet at the agency at 7:00am sharp. We
check the weather forecast, put on the shoes and pack the equipment.
40 minutes one way by shuttle to the ski resort.
Normally, the climb starts at 1,200m until the summit at 2,847m,
but If it’s not too windy, a chair lift can be used to go
from 1,450m to 1,800m, this option comes at an extra cost of $ 5,000
CLP per lift.
Climbing time:
5 hours with the chair lift / 6 hours without it.
Time at the summit:
between 5 minutes and 1 hour at the edge of the crater (depending
on general weather’s conditions: temperature, wind, smoke
and level of activity of the volcano)
Time of descent:
1 hour skiing/snowboarding down.
We come back to the agency between 4 and 6 pm to have a drink with
the group on the terrace and to pay the balance for the climb.
Agency policy:
In the case of rain in the morning, you don’t even have to
get up. You are invited to come to the office during the day and
ask for a refund of 100% of the deposit.
If the conditions are uncertain (cloudy for example), you must come
to the agency (or at least call) and meet the guide, who will evaluate
weather conditions. If you don’t contact us, we will only
pay you back a 50% refund on your deposit.
Once at the agency, you have the choice of either climb up or not.
In case of bad weather conditions, you can postpone the climb for
the next day or ask for a full refund if you can’t stay any
longer.
Sometimes, it is difficult for the guide to evaluate the weather
conditions, so it may be necessary to go the base of the volcano
(if the group agrees), where you will decide whether to climb or
not.
If you decide to climb up we will charge you the complete fare (even
if we have to come back due to bad weather conditions). Alternatively
if you decide to come back to the agency, we’ll only charge
you the cost of the transport (Chile$ 4,000).
The guide will be responsible for the people in the group during
the entire excursion. He is the only one who takes decisions.
